The other day, my friend shared a photo of a cat with a cleft lip in our group chat for parents of children with clefts. This adorable kitty was rescued in Minnesota, and it immediately felt like fate that he should join our family.
What struck us even more was that, just like our son Madden, this cat also had complete heterochromia iridum. It was like they were meant to be friends. Having a pet like this can really make you feel less isolated.
Complete heterochromia iridum is a rare condition where the eyes are different colors entirely, occurring in less than 1% of the population. When combined with a cleft lip, as in this cat’s case, it becomes even more exceptional.
With Christina Humphreys’ generosity, some friends pitched in to sponsor a road trip for us. This allowed us to journey from Oklahoma to Minnesota to adopt the adorable Moon, our new feline family member.
Even though we’re not usually the type to make impulsive decisions, we just knew that our hearts were set on providing a loving home for Moon. It’s clear that Moon and Madden, our son, were destined to be the best of pals. In a world filled with negativity, we will always opt to pursue love and kindness.
I truly believe that Moon embodies love, and his presence in our lives signifies that he was always meant to be a part of our story and Madden’s as well.
